Track A: Sessions 3 – 7
Legal and Advocacy Updates
We will explore the latest policy and program updates facing asylum seekers and refugees in the United States including the impact of Covid-19 and the rapidly evolving legal landscape. We will close with an interactive national discussion between human rights clinics from academic medical centers across the country.

Track B: Sessions 8 – 12
Advanced Adult Asylum Evaluations
We will hear from an expert physician using the Istanbul Protocol to document torture patterns throughout the Syrian conflict, explore specific challenges in Central American asylum claims, discuss the revisions in the Istanbul Protocol from writers of the updated version, discuss our adaptation to remote asylum evaluations and explore the challenges of traumatic brain injuries and PTSD.

Track C: Sessions 13 – 17
Child and Adolescent Issues in Immigrant Court
We will discuss pediatric forensic evaluation for asylum cases as an evolving practice. We will explore the concept of torture and how it applies to children, better understand the use of mental health tools for interviews and psychological evaluations, explore the needs of unaccompanied minors, and take a broader look at our approach to the pediatric evaluation. We will also review the use of universal declarations as a tool for both health and legal practitioners.
