Leading clinicians — with national and international expertise — and UCSF medical students, created the UCSF Health and Human Rights Initiative (HHRI) in 2019 to support families fleeing persecution and violence. The diverse leadership of HHRI use their own lived experiences and extensive training to hear the journeys of immigrants, document signs of torture and ill-treatment, and advocate for humane and inclusive policies. To advance these efforts, we partner with immigration attorneys throughout California, physicians across multiple disciplines, immigration judges, and community organizations that provide pro bono services.
